Polar Bear Pitching!

Polar Bear Pitching

How far would you go to prove your business is a good investment?

In Northern Finland, slipping into a pair of trunks or bikini and taking a dip is not at the top of most people’s to-do lists on a sub-zero day in February.

At The Polar Bear Pitching event on 7 February, 20 thick-skinned entrepreneurs did just that and plunged into the ice to deliver a winning pitch to potential investors.
How much time did they get? Well that depended on how long they could stand the freezing cold water!

It was an extreme endurance test which the organisers hope will kickstart a small business revolution in the city where the unemployment rate is as high as 14%.

The Elevator World Tour sounds a little more civilised. It’s a series of pitching events expected to take place in Paris or Barcelona in March and New York in May.

100 startups compete for the chance to win $100,000 by sharing a 1 minute ride on the lift with potential investors. If investors like their idea, they’re allowed to do a longer pitch in front of an audience.

Another option is Speed Funding, very like the dating equivalent, it puts investors at tables around a room and each startup has 4 minutes to pitch their idea, before moving on to the next station.
